Mistakes – How to minimize them – How to manage them

Download it: MP3 | AAC | OGG | OPUS

Do you agree that everybody makes mistakes?
Have you had to deal with a mistake yourself, that you were really concerned about?
Were you afraid about speaking with your supervisor or your team with it?

We are all imperfect humans making mistakes. The questions are:

  • how do we deal with them,
  • what we can do about them, and
  • what to do to minimize them.

Processes are made to minimize mistakes and there different processes were set up to deal with mistakes and help you when mistakes occur.

To my experience it is helpful to alert the receiver of your statistical work in some appropriate way e.g.: - by declaring your report as an initial draft for discussion, you anticipate that changes may be necessary and you invite the receiver for a critical review and feedback, - by declaring your report as a final draft you indicate that this may be the last opportunity for corrections, - your client may not understand your statistical methods in detail but may have good feeling for plausibility of results.
